Fort Macon State Park is a historic landmark where a reconstructed fort stands guard over Beaufort Harbor as it once did during the Civil War. Located on Bogue Banks near Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, Fort Macon is surrounded by three sides of water – the Atlantic Ocean, Beaufort Inlet and Bogue Sound.

Fort Macon attracts more than one million people each year. History and educational programs are the primary focus of this historical park. Take a guided tour of the restored fort or conduct your own to see bunks, cannons, a rations storage room, Civil War artifacts and more. The fort contains 26 vaulted rooms which are enclosed by 4 ½ -feet thick walls. And be sure to catch the Civil War reenactment on the grounds of Fort Macon to learn more about its history.
